Denver Urban Forest Issues

Trees in the forest grow tall and straight. However, in yards with abundant light and space, they grow in all directions, creating trees with many structural defects. Trees with defects break easily in storms, and regular pruning can reduce these deficiencies, allowing them to withstand Denver’s snowstorms. Read up on the latest news about Denver’s urban forest.

WINTER KILL

Denver is known for its polar plunges in early fall and spring. Trees that freeze look OK in the winter, but damage becomes apparent the next spring. Look for twigs turning black and limbs not leafing out. DLC recommends cutting out the winter kill in affected trees to encourage growth. Unfortunately, some trees are not salvageable and may need to be removed.

FIRE BLIGHT TREATMENT

Though the fireblight epidemic is mostly over, DLC Landscape & Arbor is a leader in new and more effective approaches to Fire Blight. Homeowners with Apple or Pear trees should stay up to date on the status of their trees and call us to discuss treatment options.

EMERALD ASH BORER (EAB)

EAB devastates Ash trees since they have no resistance to the insect. In 2019, the EAB moved out of Boulder County and is on the move and can be found in Denver. The city expects homeowners to care for any Ash on their property, so please contact us to discuss your treatment options.
